Domaine du Clos des Lambrays

The luxury product group LVMH acquired this property in 2014, identifying it as one of the great treasures of viticultural France, alongside other investments such as Champagne Dom Perignon, Bordeaux Chateau Cheval Blanc and Sauternes Chateau d’Yquem. Le Clos des Lambrays is one of the most famous Grand Cru vineyards of Burgundy, of the planet, and is owned almost in its entirety by this one Producer (owning it outright would bestow the MONOPOLE denomination on the wine, if only Domaine Taupenot-Merme didn’t own the tiny slither of the northern-most tip of this vineyard that it does !). The 2015 vintage has been hailed as one of the great recent red vintages, especially in the most prestigious Cote de Nuits. LVMH have also been ramping-up pricing with each new vintage, so this is probably the very last time this wine will be ‘affordable’ ! Before the Rand crashed, we were for example already anticipating a 50% price increase between the 2015 and the 2017 vintage. We’re probably now looking at up to a doubling of the pricing with our next allocation… So, you do not need to be an analyst to understand what a good investment this wine could make.
