Syrah No2
Alain Graillot
2012
Victoria
Australia
Grown in the exquisite Cambrian soils in Colbinabbin, this single vineyard Syrah was made by a incredibly skilled French winemaker and with only one very strict condition. Alain Graillot (winemaker) explained to Robert Walters (importer) that he would only take part in the creation of these wines if the wines produced were of a standard he could accept. If not, he was out and luckily for us and for you, the 2012 vintage proved to be a complete success. Hand picked, aged in French oak and unfiltered - this Syrah is the stuff of dreams, with its thick, juicy notes of dark cherries, bright blueberries some spice and a graphite edge, the palate is expressive from whole bunch fermentation and loaded with chalky tannins that just go on forever. It's a wine of true class at this price, it's absolutely unmissable.
“Excellent depth and clarity to the colour. Handpicked, wild yeast open fermented with 35% whole bunches, matured on lees in used French oak, neither fined nor filtered. Aromas and flavours of black cherries, spice and forest run through the finely structured, elegant palate, the tannins guaranteeing a long life.” James Halliday
