France; the Holy Grail for wine lovers the world over. Our hand-picks include (but are not limited to) wines from these key regions:

Burgundy (what the locals drink). As Burgundy prices continue to soar against a spate of difficult vintages & demand for the tourist wines, finding value has become increasingly difficult. We’ve long championed the road less travelled of Burgundy; among the bars & eateries of Beaune, bottles of Marsannay, Mecurey, Rully & Beaune... these wines in our collection are those that the locals drink.

Beaujolais (the future is). Alex Dale has long championed Cru Beaujolais & our selections today represent the pick of the bunch. It’s a playground of old vines, with the crus situated on deep granite formed hills and, where organic farming is commonplace. The latest generation of Beaujolais vigneron are fledging at a time when worldwide demand of fresh reds & Cru Beaujolais is booming once again. The world of wine is catching on at a pace but, for the moment, the value to drinking pleasure is unmatched within France.

Bordeaux (the revolution). There’s a revolution going on in swanky Bordeaux. Young vignerons championing site over winemaking, experimenting with different blend compositions, single varietal wines & alternative maturation vessels. Furthermore, classic estates are putting their time & money into the satellite appellations, chiefly the Castillon Hills, an extension of the famed limestone ridge just east of St Émilion.

Champagne (‘Grower’ cru). Grower Champagne is a recent addition to our selections at RD Imports, which will see several exciting young-gun additions in the coming years. The category represents the farmer & the artisan, fine bubbly that better reflects a sense of place & individuality, with an emphasis on viticulture so often overlooked by the mass-produced brands.

Loire (the underdog). The Loire produces so much and so very well, yet sits outside the limelight commanded by other, more focused French regions. That diversity is also its strength. Thrilling Chenin across dry, sweet & sparkling expressions. Age-worthy, complex Sauvignon Blanc. Scented & energetic Cabernet Franc. Pinot Noir making strides. It’s a place of grafters, generosity & humility... & lekker wine.

Plus gems from the Rhône Valley, Alsace, Provence, Rousillon, Cahors and more...
